Endless aisle

A merchandising strategy that lets a buyer discover and order products online that are not physically stocked in a warehouse or store, expanding the effective catalog beyond what the seller carries in inventory.

The endless aisle concept solves a specific long-tail problem: a distributor cannot profitably stock every low-volume SKU a buyer might want, but can still capture that sale by listing it online and fulfilling it through a supplier or drop-ship arrangement. Master B2B’s research on long-tail growth found this is one of the more direct ways a distributor can grow revenue without adding warehouse space, since the products in question are, by definition, the ones too infrequently ordered to justify holding inventory. The limiting factor is usually not demand but data: an endless aisle strategy only works if product information for those long-tail items is complete and accurate enough for a buyer to trust an order they cannot physically inspect first.
