Agentic commerce

Buying and selling conducted or assisted by autonomous AI agents that can search, compare, and in some cases complete a purchase on a buyer's behalf, rather than a human clicking through a website directly.

Agentic commerce moves beyond an AI simply answering a question and into an AI taking action, checking a supplier’s catalog, comparing specs against a stated requirement, or placing a reorder without a person manually completing each step. Master B2B’s research into how enterprises measure success in this area found many companies default to revenue growth as their top metric, which practitioners have cautioned may be the wrong yardstick this early, since much of agentic commerce’s initial value shows up as efficiency and reduced cost to serve rather than incremental sales. For B2B sellers, the practical implication is that product data and pricing need to be structured well enough for an agent to parse correctly, since an agent cannot call a sales rep to ask a clarifying question the way a human buyer might.
