Bot-to-bot commerce

Transactions where an AI agent representing the buyer interacts directly with an AI agent or automated system representing the seller, with limited or no human involvement on either side.

Bot-to-bot commerce is the logical extension of agentic commerce: rather than a person using an AI tool to shop a human-run website, both sides of the transaction are increasingly automated. Andy Hoar’s book Bot 2 Bot: The New Future of B2B Commerce projects that a majority of work tasks, including commercial ones, will soon be handled by humans and bots together or by bots alone. The shift raises practical questions for B2B sellers about how a website or catalog needs to be built when its primary “visitor” may be another company’s purchasing agent rather than a person, including machine-readable pricing, consistent structured data, and APIs that a bot can call directly instead of a form a human fills out.
