B2B and B2C convergence

The trend of B2B and B2C companies increasingly adopting each other's business models, with B2C brands building wholesale or business-buyer arms and B2B companies adopting consumer-grade digital experiences.

Convergence runs in both directions. B2B companies have spent years learning from B2C on customer experience, but Master B2B’s reporting has tracked the reverse trend accelerating too: consumer retailers and brands building B2B and wholesale divisions to reach professional buyers, since every B2B buyer is also a consumer with the same underlying expectations. Home Depot’s expansion into professional distribution and Wayfair’s business-focused arm are both examples of consumer-facing companies building real B2B capability rather than simply serving business customers as an afterthought of their consumer operation. The businesses navigating this well tend to build the B2B-specific mechanics, contract pricing, purchase orders, dedicated account support, rather than assuming their consumer platform can serve a business buyer unchanged.
